Metolius takes its name from the mighty and majestic Metolius River in Oregon, a beautiful force of nature which bubbles up unexpectedly out of the ground in a vividly clean and unearthly aqua color.
She takes her inspiration from where bits and pieces of nature meet up with the colors of urban life. She enjoys really long urban walks and hikes in the great outdoors where she gathers imagery and color combinations.
Laura Jo holds an MFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. She is deeply engaged in the tactile world of making art by hand and values infusing spaces with items that begin with and retain elements of the handmade.
Previous to launching Metolius in 2017, Laura Jo dreamt up the aesthetic for Coyuchi, an organic home textiles company, creating a fresh palette of textures and colors to offer a new perspective on organic home textiles.
She lives in a funky old house in San Francisco with her husband and two sons.
